A piece of history

In addition to serving as Grenadine Wild Sea Salt’s production facility, ‘The Mill’ on the island of Bequia is a high-end tourist destination and learning center where we host tours, talks, tastings and private events around all things culinary and creative.

We have transformed the property into a tranquil, park-like setting incorporating our 140 patented solar evaporation stills and the restored ancient ruins of The Old Sugar Mill which is the oldest structure on the island dating back to the late 17th century. As part of Spring Plantation where sugar, indigo, arrowroot, cassava, and copra were produced; it is most likely the oldest structure on the island. For the past three years we’ve made every effort to restore this exquisitely beautiful structure as our new home base for Grenadine Wild Sea Salt.

Preserved yet transformed

Essentially a ruin when we started, The Mill has now been transformed into the most beautiful version of its modern self. Rather than tearing any of the ancient beauty down, we labored to build support around it, essentially framing its history, as you can see with our ‘ancient wall’ which serves as the anchor to the property. We’ve labored to make sure any new additions to the structure are in keeping with the old. We hope it to be a showcase not only for our salt but for the history of Bequia as well.

The ancient history of The Mill dovetails beautifully with the ancient history of salt. This synergy presents with our retail shop, located in what was the former ‘Pay House’ for the sugar estate featuring our unique Sea Salt Bar, where visitors can sample various flavored salt blends, purchase GSS Body Scrubs, apparel, and other gift items.
